Local Farm Bucks the Trend

Skip Connett is a local farmer in east Austin. With the help of his wife, children, and two full-time hired help, Connett grows vegetables and raises and sells animals such as pigs, goats, and chickens. Volunteers from Community Supported Agriculture also lend a hand in return for organic groceries.  The farm is unable to afford to pay full time volunteers, and “we usually have more vegetables than money,” says Connett. The recent economic recession has moderately disrupted farm sales due to people spending less money on food. However, Green Gate Farms has had a large demand from local Austinites whom Skip says are very conscious about the food they eat and are turned off from industrialized farming.

HD Video now on iMaxx

For Christmas I acquired a Flip HD Mino with 2 hour of recording space (4GB?).  It shoots in 1080i video and looks absolutely stunning considering this camera is the size of a cell phone.  So now I’ll be posting some embedded Youtube files.  Make sure to watch them in HD.

Up to date

I’ve been busy with a new project at Magnum recently and I also spent 10 days back in Texas visiting friends and family in Austin and Dallas.  I’m back in New York for another three weeks and I’ll get some stuff up soon because it’s been a while.

Also, today President Obama agreed that 30,000 more troops should be sent to Afghanistan.  Big news.

Bureaucracy at its best

After a bitter battle with UT I am finally able to register for classes – actually my registration time started yesterday and now I won’t be able to do it until 7:00 pm tonight.  Hopefully my classes won’t be gone by then.  It’s absolutely ridiculous how terrible the administration systems are at UT.  Ok, not everyone who works in UT administration is terrible, but I feel that there is a large lack of communication between the departments.  Anyway, I’ve sorted out my schedule – oh yeah, and pickaprof is now called MyEdu? That’s new.

I’ve signed up for a “temp schedule” as I like to call it.  This is a schedule that I will be satisfied with and will not be a waste of my time if my desired schedule falls through.  The only differences between this draft and my desired schedule is that I wish to take J315 and J355; however I cannot enroll in them because I am still yet to be a J student at UT (still waiting on my acceptance letter.. maybe December/January).  When I get that notification I’ll edit my schedule last minute hopefully with the help of the J advisors.

UPDATE:

Shortly after I submitted this post I checked back to see if my classes were still a-go.  Nope.  The E 316K I had chosen has closed.  SEE HOW RIDICULOUS THIS IS?!

Peter van Agtmael @ ICP

Magnum photographer and total badass Peter van Agtmael was at the International Center of Photography autographing his new book, 2nd Tour Hope I Don’t Die – an amazing collection of photographs that document the war in Iraq and the war at home that soldiers face once they return to their lives in America.

Do you believe in ghosts? Yes or yes?

Saw this advertisement on the side of Facebook earlier today.  It doesn’t even give you an option to say “no,” what kind of question is that?

Rain

Not feeling well today and having to walk through the rain to get some lunch wasn’t great either.

Experiments with Omegle

I’m not sure if you’ve heard of Omegle before, but it’s a flash based web client that connects you anonymously with stranger in a chat interface.  Sometimes it’s really cool and can connect you with people on an international scale, allowing you to have a nice conversation and understand someone else’s perspective on the world, all from your living room.

And then, sometimes you just come across crazies:

Oh yeah, P.S. Sorry @josh_pope for using your name – clearly it was for science.
